SEN. Grace Poe hits the baggage delays at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, seeking a refund and reparation for affected passengers.

“It’s unacceptable that hundreds of luggage are stuck at the airport due to a technical glitch. A delayed flight is a bad thing; a mishandled or delayed luggage is equally disappointing. A week is too long for a problem with the baggage handling system to be remedied,” Poe said.

Hundreds of pieces of luggage were left stranded at the airport even after their owners had already departed and arrived at their destinations since Monday, October 21.

The senator is seeking a quick resolution to the problem, stressing that what’s piling up in the airport are valuable belongings of passengers.

“Passengers pay for their checked-in bags as required by the airline company. They deserve a refund and more for the trouble caused.”

She urges a resolution of the issue with the rehabilitation of NAIA.

“While at it, the airport management and the airline owe it to the affected passengers to be helpful and show they are not sitting on the problem,” she said.

According to Cebu Pacific spokesperson Carmina Romero said about 800 bags were affected by the glitch as of October 22.

The San Miguel Corp-led New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation said it will replace the 20-year-old baggage handling system and has already procured a new, advanced system, with additional redundancy measures set to be implemented to prevent future disruptions and enhance operational efficiency.

NNIC took over the management and operations of NAIA last Sept. 14 with the commitment to rehabilitate and modernize its systems. (ABS-CBN News)
