ILOILO City – Fire incidents last month in Region 6 were 89 percent higher than those recorded in January 2021, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
There were 180 fire incidents last month; in January 2021 the bureau recorded 95.
According to BFP Region 6 director Gerry Candido, of 180 fire cases, 108 were structural, 57 non-structural and 15 vehicular.
In 2021, BFP-6 recorded 65 structural fires, 21 non-structural fires and nine vehicular fires.
Fire damage this January so far reached P12 million. January last year, it was P8 million.
Candido said causes of the fire were human negligence or human error, electrical in nature, unattended stoves, and/or candles, cigarette butts, children playing match/lighter, open flame (kerosene lamp), liquefied petroleum gas leakage, and lightning.
“Once again I would like to remind the public to be careful. Always check your electrical connections. Damo balay nagkalasunog sang January, mostly electrical connections ang reason,” Candido said.
He hoped the number of fire incidents would drop.
“Isa sa mga activities nga amon himuon, pabaskugon pa gid namon ang amon information dissemination. Magalibot amon fire trucks reminding the public. May mga fliers man kami ipanghatag on fire prevention,” Candido said./PN
