Registered voters in Aklan surpass 400K for 2022 May polls

KALIBO, Aklan – More than 400,000 people are eligible to cast their votes during the national and local elections on May 9, 2022, in the province of Aklan.

Based on the latest Commission on Elections (Comelec) records, 409,938 individuals who are at least 18 years old are registered to vote in 17 towns of Aklan.

The capital town of Kalibo has the most number of registered voters with 54,660, followed by the first-class municipality of Malay with 42,135 and New Washington with 33,238.

Out of the total, Lezo has the least number of registered voters with 10,039 followed by Buruanga with 12,598 and Madalag with 13,362.

Ibajay has 32,920 registered voters, Banga with 29,166; Nabas with  25,481; Numancia with 24,163; Batan with 23,831; Makato with 21,282; Libacao with 19,190; Altavas with 17,993; Balete with 17,875; Malinao with 16,428 and Tangalan with 15,577.

A total of 209,315 voters from the 1st Aklan Legislative District and 200,623 voters from the 2nd Aklan Legislative District have registered for the midterm polls.

In the 2019 election, there were 390,360 registered voters in Aklan compared to 345,359 in 2016.

According to the poll body, 315,633 voted in the 2019 election or 80.86 percent voters’ turnout in 560 clustered precincts in Aklan.

There were 195,941 female voters, while 194,419 male voters in Aklan in 2019./PN
