NEGROS Occidental – Skeletal remains believed to be those of an eight-year-old girl who went missing during a typhoon-induced flash flood last year were discovered in a sugarcane plantation in Barangay 5, Isabela, Negros Occidental on February 10.
The child, a Grade 3 pupil and resident of Hacienda Cristita in Barangay Bulad, Isabela, was reported missing on November 4, 2025, after she was swept away by a sudden flash flood at the height of Typhoon “Tino,” according to her family.
Police said the remains were found around 8 a.m. in Hacienda Alicia by a sugarcane worker who was harvesting in the area.
The Isabela Municipal Police Station (MPS) received the report at about 8:05 a.m., prompting duty investigators and responding officers to immediately proceed to the scene.
Upon arrival, authorities conducted an ocular inspection and discovered scattered human skeletal remains in the middle of the plantation.
The remains were later identified by the victim’s grandmother through the clothing and a bracelet recovered at the site.
Police have yet to release further details pending documentation and proper turnover of the remains to the family./PN
