ILOILO – Nearly 500 schoolchildren and teachers of Aglalana Integrated School in Barangay Aglalana, Passi City were beneficiaries of a water system project recently turned over by the provincial government.
The barangay and school were some 12 kilometers away from Passi City’s main center.
The water system included a well, a two-cubic meter water storage tank and steel tower, electric motor pump, and cable post.
At the turnover program on Sept. 16, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. stressed the importance of health and sanitation.
“Our schools must have easy access to clean water for the new normal,” said Defensor.
The provision of water systems, toilets and wash areas in schools and hospitals is included in Defensor’s “Plan RT-PCR” (Plan for Rehabilitation and Transformation of the Province of Iloilo to Catalyze Recovery, Executive Order No. 183, Series of 2020 issued on Aug. 17).
The goal is to restore the “damage caused by (the coronavirus disease pandemic), with refocused and adjusted priorities and programs, to bring about economic recovery and heal social life.”
It focuses on “restoring money being withdrawn from the local economy, promoting confidence and safety in people circulation, and protecting their psychosocial welfare,” according to Defensor./PN
