SAN JOSE, Antique – Gov. Rhodora Cadiao criticized Rep. Paolo Javier for complaining on the non-issuance of quarry permits to some contractors.
“What business does Congressman Paolo Javier have with contractors not given quarry permits,” Cadiao asked.
According to Javier, Cadiao should be blamed for the delay of projects in the province.
“He does not even know why [these] contractors could not be issued quarry permits yet,” said the governor.
Cadiao said she wrote the following contractors, among others, on July 27 to remind them to comply with requirements for their quarry permit applications: Nestor Kho Yute and son Rotsen Kho Yute, former Culasi mayor Joel Lomugdang and daughter-in-law Carla Sabay, Yuyeen Sumugat, and Othelo Yap.
“Kho Yute has 12 violations. [The same is true] with his son,” Cadiao said. “They seem uninterested. I gave them five days. It’s almost three months now.”
She stressed the requirements were set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. “I have no reason not to issue them quarry permits as long as they comply,” she said.
The contractors lacked environmental compliance certificates, barangay resolutions and proof of financial capability, among other requirements that “any legitimate businessman has,” said Cadiao.
“I was informed these contractors never had a quarry permit in the past several years,” she said. “Under my administration, I want everything in accordance with the law. Comply with the requirements, and you will be issued a quarry permit.” (PNA)
