ILOILO City – Police arrested a retired jail guard in a drug buy-bust operation Tuesday in Barangay Divinagracia, La Paz district.

Officers from Leganes, Iloilo tagged the 53-year-old Jhon Demafiles of Alta Tierra Village, Jaro as a “newly identified drug personality.”

Five plastic packs of suspected shabu, including the buy-bust item, and P1,007 cash were seized from the suspect.

Demafiles had been elusive – officers have tried to arrest him three times prior to the latest operation – said Senior Inspector Dadje Delima, Leganes police chief.

A three-week surveillance preceded the 2:45 p.m. operation in La Paz.

Demafiles originally agreed to meet with what he did not know were undercover operatives in Barangay M.H. Hechanova, Leganes but changed his mind and took them to Barangay Divinagracia, La Paz, said Delima.

The suspect was last assigned at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Dumangas town.

Demafiles was detained at the Leganes police station lockup cell.

He faces charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002./PN
