ILOILO City – The Regional Maritime Unit 6 (RMU-6) created a tracker team to run after fugitives.
Colonel Ervin Glenn Provido, RMU-6 director, said they are now intensifying their campaign against persons who have pending criminal cases, thus he created a tracker team to hunt them down.
“The RMU-6 is not only focusing on illegal fishing and other marine operations, but we are also conducting operations against fugitives through our tracker team,” Provido said.
The RMU-6 chief recently ordered the tracker team to review all lists of fugitives through the e- warrant system.
The e-warrant project is an electronic database on a warrant of arrest that could be used by the Philippine National Police nationwide to verify, appropriately act on and promptly disclose information to the concern law information agencies.
“Through e-warrant system we can access lists of fugitives and if they are in our area we have to arrest them,” he said.
Recent data from the RMU-6 showed that 30 fugitives were arrested across Western Visayas in 10-day operations from July 1 to July 11.
Among those captured were four individuals listed as among the region’s top 10 most wanted, along with 26 others facing charges for various lesser offenses.
Provido further encouraged station commanders throughout the region to continue their efforts against both illegal fishing and the pursuit of individuals with outstanding legal cases./PN
