ILOILO City – There is nothing definite yet in the planned widening of the road from Molo to Arevalo districts, clarified Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) City Engineering Office chief, Engr. Rodney Gustilo.
It was recently reported that some 600 houses may be demolished for the road widening from Barangay Boulevard, Molo up to the boundaries of Arevalo district and the town of Oton, Iloilo.
“This is just a proposal. This may or may not happen subject to the validation and approval of DPWH’s central Office,” said Gustilo.
It was the city government’s Task Force on Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structures (TF ASIS) head, Engr. Roberto Dumanil, who disclosed that some 600 houses would be demolished.
What the City Engineering Office is currently doing is rehabilitating the remaining portion of the dilapidated road from Tatoy’s Manokan to Barangay Sto. Niño, particularly in front of Punta Villa Beach Resort, according to Gustilo.
“May ginapaidog-idog lang kita dira nga portion sang mga tiangge o balay that were already encroaching the national road, para indi sila maigo sang equipment sang contractor,” said Gustilo.
According to Dumanil, the proposed road-widening project of some seven kilometers.
“There’s an ongoing reevaluation of the houses. Three years ago na-survey na namon. Sa sulat sang DPWH masugod na ang proyekto sa 2019,” said Dumanil.
The road will be widened on both sides by seven meters to ease traffic congestion, he added./PN
