MANILA – Vice President Leni Robredo on Saturday denied allegations that the testimony of self-confessed hit man Edgar Matobato is the Liberal Party’s (LP) “Plan B” to bring her into power, and said that she will not support any impeachment proceedings as these will not be good for the country.
During a visit to Naga City to talk to drug surrenderers and celebrate the Penafrancia Festival, Robredo said Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano’s accusations were “unfair” as she has always showed support for President Rodrigo Duterte after she joined the Cabinet.
Cayetano said earlier this week that Matobato’s testimony during a Senate probe on alleged drug-related extrajudicial killings naming Duterte and his kin as patrons of the Davao Death Squad (DDS) was an attempt of the LP to install Robredo in Malacañang.
“Very supportive ang pangulo sa akin, kaya sa akin lang, napaka-irresponsible ng pagsabi [ni Cayetano na may plano umano ang LP na siraan ang administrasyon],” she said.
Cayetano’s statements have no basis, Robredo said, and doubted that anyone would want the confusion that comes after any ouster.
“Ako mismo, parati ko namang sinasabi na any attempt na magkaroon ng impeachment proceedings, hindi ko iyan susuportahan. Kasi tingin ko, hindi iyan makakabuti para sa atin.”
People should give Duterte a chance to serve the country properly, she said, because the administration’s success is the people’s success.
Robredo also denied any discussions within the LP, which backed her campaign for the vice presidency in the May 9 elections, regarding the issue, as it is too early to say whether there is any truth to Matobato’s testimony and his accusations against Duterte.
The LP is also not in a position to say whether his story is true, she said.
“Ang sa amin lang , huwag harangan kung anuman ang ginagawa ng pamahalaan para malaman ang katotohanan.” (ABS-CBN News)
