MANILA – Newly appointed personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been urged to be dedicated to serving others and be loyal to the flag.
During the recent PNP oath-taking at the Malacañang, President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte told police officials to “remain loyal to the flag and to the Constitution.”
“Trabaho lang tayo at sa aking panahon wala kayong problema… Not because I want you to be loyal to me,” said Duterte.
The President also reminded the police not cultivate loyalty to him but to the country that needs their dedication.
“Just continue to do your work. Maybe huwag kayong matakot about the future. I’m still here six years. I can always harness you back to government by the time you get out of the police,” he added.
In his speech, Duterte once again tackled his concern on the spread of illegal drugs and how it has crept into the country’s political system.
Police members who are involved in drugs and crimes will be held accountable to their deeds, he further went.
Instead of attacking his efforts against drugs, Duterte asked his critics to help the government win the war against its illicit trade.
Meanwhile Duterte said he plans to meet with the widows of the slain 44 Special Action Force members who died during the class between the Muslim rebels and the PNP in 2015.
He said he was wondering why the police failed to receive military reinforcement even though the firefight lasted several hours./PN
