THE Rotary Club of Iloilo City is once again hosting the annual Boys’ and Girls’ Week in partnership with the Iloilo City Government. This initiative aims to train the youth with effective leadership and good governance for the next generation of public servants.

In a span of about a week, the participating students will serve Iloilo City as government officials alongside their counterparts.

60 students passed the qualifying written examination held last Sept. 14. The qualified students underwent another set of assessments in the form of an interview last Oct. 5. Each student randomly picked a question and was given time to prepare for their answers. They then presented these in front of a panel of judges.

The students’ written and oral scores were combined and the one who got the highest score becomes the Mayor of Iloilo City, the second highest will be the Vice Mayor and so on.

For a week, the students are expected to ask questions and join the planning discussions of the city, draft and pass resolutions as soon as signed by their counterparts, participate in sessions and interact with other public officials./PN
