ROXAS City – The construction of the New Roxas City Hall in Pueblo de Panay, Barangay Lawaan here commenced yesterday morning, December 1.
The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, Capiz’s Vice Gov. James “Mitang” Magbanua and other city and provincial government officials.
Mayor Dadivas, in his speech, said that December 1 was a day of great joy and pride for Roxas City as they gathered to break ground for a legacy project that holds a very special place in his heart.
“The bigger and better Roxas City Hall is not just a building, it is a testament to the dreams and aspirations that we shared for our beloved Roxas City,” he said.
The city mayor also recalled that during his first term as mayor, he envisioned this project because “the city is becoming increasingly congested and with the growth and development we are experiencing, we must look ahead and create a building or place that will serve future generation.”
“By transferring the city hall to this location, we are preserving the heart of our city, our heritage zone and historical structures. Urbanization brings progress but it can also post threats to our history. This decision ensures that our past is preserve even as we embrace the future. The design of the new city hall is inspired by the Manila Central Post Office with neoclassical style,” Mayor Dadivas added.
He further explained that the Manila Central Post Office is a symbolic place where voices are carried to their destinations, people are connected with the government, and public servants listen and respond to the needs of the people./PN
