Roxas City Day trade fair opens

ROXAS City – The trade fair “Kaadlawan sang Roxas NegoFair 2023” opened yesterday as part of the activities for the 72nd anniversary of Roxas City from May 8 to 14.

Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, along with several city government and barangay officials, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) employees and small business owners, graced the opening ceremony at the SM City Roxas event center.

The week-long activity is being participated in by 47 barangays clustered into eight booths selling their known products.

Seven small and medium enterprises are also joining the NegoFair to showcase their locally-made handicrafts, processed food and souvenir items, among others.

The NegoFair also features five tourism promotion booths showcasing the services and tourist spots in Roxas City and Capiz.

Republic Act 603, otherwise known as the Roxas City Charter, named the municipality of Capiz as Roxas City in honor of its most illustrious son, President Manuel Acuña Roxas.

The cityhood emanated from a bill for the creation of Roxas City sponsored by then Rep. Ramon Arnaldo and signed into law by President Elpidio Quirino on April 11, 1951, three years after Pres. Roxas died at 56.

Executive Order 438 issued by Pres. Quirino fixed the date of its charter on May 12, 1951. (PIA Capiz)/PN
