ROXAS CITY – From just being a plan in November 2020, the river promenade here has now become a reality.

On Feb. 11, 2022, the city government here led by Mayor Ronnie Dadivas has opened its newest tourist attractions to the public. These are the Paseo del Rio and Casa de Mercado along the Panay River.

The city government started planning the project in November 2020.  The promenade begins at San Roque Bridge (TATC) towards Altavas Street towards the portion of Washington Street until Juliano Alba Bridge (Jumbo) and Premier de Mayo Street.

The area which was once a dumping site was transformed into an open space for the public to enjoy.

“Ang sadto tambakan sang basura, mahigku kag mabaho nga lugar guinhimo naton nga atraksyon nga magahatag opurtunidad kag pangabuy-anan sa magagmay nga negosyante,” said  Dadivas.

Among those who joined Dadivas during the inauguration on Feb. 11 were Congressman Tawi Billones and several Capiz board members and local officials of Roxas  City, DTI – Capiz Provincial Director Ken Queenie Cunada, Provincial Tourism Officer Al Tesoro, among others.

Meanwhile, in time for Valentine’s Day, the city government through the City Tourism Office has initiated an event dubbed as

Love Flows. It has prepared some fitness activities and there are also acoustic bands, KPOP, food kiosks, while others may enjoy walking.

“Kabalo ako nga subong nga tion sang pandemya nangin limitado guid ang aton paghulag. Ang Paseo del Rio magahatag sang kahigayunan sa aton nga bisan paano sa aton pagguwa agud maka-relax feeling safe kita bangud ini isa ka open space” said Dadivas.

According to Dadivas, the promenade is just among the many other lined-up beautification projects for Roxas City. /PN
