Roxas cold storage facility opens

ROXAS City — This city’s first-ever cold storage facility opened yesterday on St. Joseph Avenue at Pueblo de Panay in Barangay Lawa-an.

It will provide a room where farmers and fishermen can store their produce, and in the long run help stabilize the prices and supply of goods, according to Arturo Yan, president of Megafridge 168 Corp.

The cold room is less than a kilometer away from the Roxas City Integrated Transport Terminal.

It will be operated by Panay Cold Chain Services Corp., owned by Megafridge 168 Corp. and Pueblo de Panay, Inc.

Megafridge 168 Corp. also owns Glacier Refrigerated Services Corp., a cold storage and logistics chain operations company in Manila.

Among the features and services at the city’s cold room are:

  • drive-in and selective racking system
  • lighting system using LED (light-emitting diode) bulbs
  • state-of-the-art forklifts and materials handling system
  • built-in power-generating system
  • inventory management system
  • office spaces
  • warehouse management flow system, and
  • distribution and logistics services.

Yan said the facility will also empower small and medium entrepreneurs in the city./PN
