ROXAS City — Anti-narcotics operatives arrested five people in a buy-bust operation on Philippine Railway St., Brgy. 9 here, on Tuesday evening.

But a cohort of the suspects slipped from the hands of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 personnel.

Elias Basoy Jr., about 30 years old, of this city remains at large as of this writing.

Those arrested were Christian Salazar, 27; Elmer Basoy, 26, and live-in partner Rosalie Eribal, 25; Limuel Fantinalgo, 23; and Joelito Dela Peña, 18.

Operatives recovered a sachet of suspected shabu and several drug paraphernalia.

The arrested suspects were hauled off to the Roxas City police station.

Last week, barangay captains had undergone orientation under PDEA on how to organize and mobilize their respective Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs).

They were taught about the functions of BADACs and how to conduct “drug-clearing operations” in their villages, among others.

Alfredo Albaladejo, Tiza barangay captain and Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) press relations officer, said barangay captains here cannot properly operate their BADACs without an orientation from PDEA.

Albaladejo said PDEA’s invitation to conduct an orientation was welcomed by Mayor Angel Alan Celino, city police director Supt. Julio Gustilo Jr. and LnB president Virgilio Santos Jr.

Present during the orientation were PDEA’s regional director Paul Ledesma and assistant regional director Ronnie Delicana./PN
