Roxas to reward villages with high COVID vax rates

ROXAS City – Barangays here with high numbers of residents vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) would receive incentives from the city government.

The goal is to encourage more people to get vaccinated, said Mayor Ronnie Dadivas during a meeting with barangay captains on Aug. 19. They discussed the city government’s Vaccination Drive Plan and Search for CURES.

CURES stands for “COVID-19 Unified Response and Effective Strategies”.

According to Dadivas, many senior citizens are yet to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

The elderly are a priority group in the Department of Health’s (DOH) vaccination prioritization framework.

Dadivas expressed hope that an incentive scheme would make barangays work hard to reach out to unvaccinated senior citizens.

“Indi kita makadirekta (vaccinate) sa A4 category (economic frontliners) tubtob indi naton mabakunahan ang mayoriya sang populasyon sang mga senior citizens,” said Dadivas.

DOH designed a vaccination prioritization framework to ensure a fair and effective allocation of COVID-19 vaccines due to limited supply. These are the priority groups:

* A1 – frontline workers in health facilities, health professionals and non-professionals like students, nursing aides, janitors, barangay health workers, etc.

* A2 – senior citizens aged 60 years old and above

* A3 – persons with comorbidities

* A4 – frontline personnel in economic / essential sectors, including uniformed personnel

* A5 – indigent populations

* B1 – Teachers, social workers

* B2 – other government workers

* B3 – other essential workers

* B4 – socio-demographic groups at significantly higher risk other than senior citizens and indigent people

* B5 – overseas Filipino workers

* B6 – other remaining workforce

* C – rest of the Filipino population not otherwise included in the above groups/PN
