Saitama dominates Toyota in Japan V.League

MANILA – Jaja Santiago and Saitama Ageo Medics walloped Toyota Auto Body Queenseis, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23, in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 women’s tournament on Sunday at the Kawagoe Sports Park Gymnasium.

The match was so lopsided that the former National University Lady Bulldogs star needed only to score six points, on four attacks and two blocks, to notch the Ageo Medics’ seventh win in 12 outings.

Yuka Sato spearheaded the offense for the Ageo Medics with 20 points, all from attacks. Mami Uchiseto produced nine points while Lorenne Teixeira finished with seven points in two sets she played.

Kelsey Robinson finished with 16 points, while Hinata Shighihara added 11 points founded on eight attacks, two blocks, and one service ace, as the Queenseis suffered its 12th defeat in as many games.

On Saturday, Santiago and the Ageo Medics also defeated Queenseis 25-19, 25-21, 18-25, 25-16 with the Filipina reinforcement scoring nine points, on eight attacks and a service ace.

Santiago and the Ageo Medics hopes to stretch its winning streak in the Division 1 women’s volleyball as it battles Hitachi on Saturday, 1 p.m. at the Adastria Mito Arena in Ibaraki.

Meanwhile, Bryan Bagunas only saw limited action as the Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler bowed to Hiroshima JT Thunder, 25-16, 25-17, 25-15, in the Japan V.League Division 1 men’s tournament at the Showa Denko Dome on Sunday.

The former National University Bulldogs star was only inserted in the opening set but still managed to get five points, on three from attacks and two from block kills, as his team suffered its third straight loss.

Marck Espejo, on the other hand, was checked by the defense as the FC Tokyo suffered a 25-13, 25-21, 25-20 defeat at the hands of Toray Arrows at the Kusanagi Sports Complex Gymnasium in Shizuoka.

The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagle struggled heavily on offense as he finished with just three points in two sets he was inserted. He was benched in the third set./PN
