San Joaquin rules team tiff in Independence Day chess

ILONGGO chess players showed their dominance as they ruled the Independence Day Tatlohan Team Chess Tournament at CityMall Ungka in Pavia, Iloilo.

Team San Joaquin – Cyril Felrod (Board 1), Checy Aliena Telesforo (Board 2) and Julius Selibio (Board 3) – took the overall championship in the team event. They brought home a P5,000 cash prize.

Team Cabatuan – Lemuel Rodriguez (Board 1), Hubert Canto (Board 2) and Floyd Montefrio (Board 3) – settled for a runner-up finish, winning P3,000 cash.

Central Philippine University Golden Lions (Mark Mariano, Fiona Guirhem and Ronel Ballesteros) and PAREF-Westbridge School for Boys’ Cesar Mariano, Rene Allaga and Billy Villanueva finished third and fourth with P2,000 and P1,000 in cash prizes, respectively.

In the Individual Board, Mark Mariano topped Board 1 while Canto ruled Board 2 and Montefrio won Board 3 in Group A. All of them took home P300 cash each.

In Group B, Cesar Mariano dominated Board 1, Rosendo Reyes ruled Board 2 and Leo Siwagan topped Board 3. They received the same cash prize.
