San Miguel manhandles Alaska in PBA Govs’ Cup

SAN ROSA, Laguna – San Miguel Beermen took advantage of the absence of Alaska Aces’ import to score a 109-83 victory in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Santa Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex.

Reinforcement Dezmine Wells tallied 25 points and seven rebounds while Terrence Romeo chipped in 18 markers.

The Grand Slam-seeking Beermen cruised to a 2-0 win-loss slate.


June Mar Fajardo, Alex Cabagnot, Kelly Nabong and Arwind Santos also submitted double figures output with 10 points each even as the Beermen played sans injured Marcio Lassiter and Christian Standhardinger.


Without import Justin Watts, the Aces was able to keep in step early and took a 29-24 lead but the Beermen turned things around in the second period behind Wells, Romeo and Fajardo for a 49-42 halftime edge.


The Beermen broke the game wide open for good in the second half with Wells attacking the Aces’ defense for its biggest lead of 35 points on three straight triples by Von Pessumal.


Jvee Casio top-scored with 16 points while Vic Manuel and rookie Abu Tratter chipped in 14 and 13 markers, respectively.

The Aces slumped to its third consecutive defeat.


In the first game, NLEX Road Warriors continued its winning ways in the season-ending conference. It executed a come-from-behind 115-109 victory over the struggling Blackwater Elite.

The Road Warriors had a flat start and were down by double figures before turning things around in the second period behind Kiefer Ravena and Kenneth Ighalo for a 62-56 halftime.


The game was tight in the second half before NLEX cruised to a 106-95 lead on triples by Ravena and Philip Paniamogan. Oluseyi Ashaolu sealed the win for the Road Warriors with free throws.


Ashaoulu tallied double-double 31 points and 10 rebounds, while Ravena added 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and Paul Desiderio finished with 28 and 24 points, respectively, for the Elite (0-2)./PN
