BACOLOD City – The city council is urging Bacolodnons to save lives by donating blood.
June 14 is the World Blood Donor Day, a Sangguniang Panlungsod resolution approved last week cited.
Blood supply is a “key component of an effective health system,” the resolution added.
Celebrating the World Blood Donor Day will “raise awareness for the need for regular blood donations that will ensure the safety and availability of blood and blood products for patients in need,” it further stated.
Resolution proponent Councilor Bartolome Orola said the theme for this year’s World Blood Donor Day is blood donation as an act of solidarity.
The slogan “Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life.” highlights the fundamental human values of altruism, respect, empathy, and kindness, added Orola.
The celebration will also feature stories of people whose lives were saved through blood donation.
Orola said it will “motivate regular blood donors to continue giving blood and to encourage people who have never given blood to begin doing so, particularly the youth.”/PN
