MANILA – House Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez has urged Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa to resign following the murder of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo inside the Camp Crame.
In a press statement on Friday evening, Alvarez has urged dela Rosa to step down from the position “to save President Rodrigo Duterte from embarrassment and restore respect in the Office of the PNP.”
“The commission of a heinous crime right in his (dela Rosa’s) very nose is not only an insult but a clear indication that he has lost the respect of his people,” Alvarez said in a statement.
“I advised dela Rosa to buckle down to work or better yet give the job to someone else who is dead serious in leading the PNP,” added Alvarez, who like Duterte and dela Rosa, is also from Davao City.
It was revealed on Thursday that Jee was abducted and was strangled to death by SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel, a policeman assigned to the PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Group, inside Camp Crame on October 2016.
Alvarez also hit dela Rosa for having “interest in showbiz career” instead of doing his job,as the police chief has been photographed “doing mundane things like singing videoke and watching concerts.”
“Social media like YouTube is now replete with the booboos of general dela Rosa including his running away from a press conference like a headless chicken after the pyrotechnic device he was holding started to smoke,” he said.
“How can we believe the stern statements dela Rosa had been making against criminals like in the aftermath of the Davao City bombing when he was the first to run in the slightest possibility of danger?” Alvarez said.
Authorities said Jee was killed the same day he was abducted. His remains were then brought to a funeral parlor in Caloocan City. The police, citing a testimony of a witness, said Jee’s remains were cremated and his ashes flushed down the toilet./PN
