‘School hazard assessment needed before classes start’

SAN JOSE, Antique – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) advised its municipal counterparts to conduct an on-site school risk and hazard assessment as the opening of classes nears.

PDRRMO chief Broderick Train on Thursday said the on-site assessment is important in ensuring the safety of students and school personnel.

“It is important to know the risks and hazards in the schools,” Train said.

He added that through the assessment, the municipal disaster risk reduction and management offices would be able to advise the school heads to implement safety and other contingency measures.

Train also asked these offices to assist police personnel in maintaining peace and order when schools open on Monday.

“Emergency medical service personnel will also be deployed to strategic areas,” Train said.

He also cautioned drivers to observe road safety when they transport students to their respective schools. (With PNA/PN)
