1,300 Boracay residents, displaced workers get P19.9-M livelihood aid

BORACAY – A total of 1,323 island closure-affected individuals availed themselves of the P19.9-million livelihood assistance program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

DSWD acting secretary Virginia Nazzarea Orogo said as of May 30, they have already helped 429 individuals in Barangay Balabag, 115 in Barangay Yapak and 169 in Barangay Manoc-manoc under the agency’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).

Other recipients of the SLP were 28 massage therapists, 73 members of Boracay Mabuhay Host Association, Inc. and the Malay Tour Guide Association, 32 members of the Boracay Ladies Caddies Association, 194 members of Malay Boracay Vendors, Peddlers, Masseurs, Manicurist Association, and 283 members of the Masboi Sailboat Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

“The fund released was the first batch of DSWD’s proposed P250-million budget to help displaced workers and residents of Boracay,” Orogo said.

She added that the DSWD regional office has begun processing the second round fund releases for 1,000 recipients this June.

The DSWD also released payouts worth for P2.4-million to 672 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries in the island.

In addition, P25 million worth of assistance under the Aid-to-Individuals-in-Crisis-Situation program was also disbursed to 10,397 individuals in relation to Boracay’s closure. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
