School on air educates farmers

SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas capacitated rice farmers in Antique on the rice competitiveness enhancement fund (RCEF) and rice production technologies via the School-On-the-Air program.

A total of 304 farmer-enrollees completed the program which started in August this year despite the coronavirus disease pandemic.

Ma. Merla G. Tuazon, one of the farmer-graduates from this town, said the sudden death of her husband forced her to embrace farming to feed her children. She was thankful to learn rice production technologies via the School-On-the-Air and applied them.

Tuazon said she attained a 30 percent increase in rice production.

The School-On-the-Air farmer-graduates came from the municipalities Barbaza, Belison, Bugasong, Culasi, Hamtic, Lauà-an, Pandan, Patnongon, San Jose, San Remigio, Tobias Fornier, and Sibalom. (DA-6/PN)
