BACOLOD City – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has started tightening security measures at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan here ahead of the facility’s planned rehabilitation.
“We are now in the process of securing
Panaad,” Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II said on Wednesday.
Diaz underscored the need to regulate the entry of the crowd, especially after
office hours.
A registration system has been set up for people entering the area, he added.
Diaz also said the provincial government plans to put up a perimeter wall near a creek located at the far side of the park.
“We have already cleared out all illegal structures inside the premises,” he noted.
The Provincial Engineering Office and the Sports Development Office, according to Diaz, have submitted a plan for the rehabilitation of the stadium.
“It’s going to be a complete rehab, which will start with the sports facilities, including the track oval. We hope that by 2021, we can be ready for the regional meet and the Palarong Pambansa,” he explained.
Diaz said the province will also enter into a memorandum of agreement with the Negros Occidental Tennis Association for the maintenance of the shell courts.
The park facilities will also be improved, which involves organizing the kiosks for the annual Panaad sa Negros Festival and the provision of parking space.
The Panaad Park is where local government units set up booths to showcase their food and tourism offerings during the Panaad festivities held every April, while the Panaad Stadium has been the venue of several international sports events, the latest of which was the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers match between the Philippines and China held on Oct. 15./PN
