ILOILO City – Fire hit eight houses in Zone 5, Barangay Boulevard, Molo district.
An electrical short circuit in a jumper connection caused it, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Five houses were totally damaged. They were owned by Marcelino Baco Sr., Julie Piad, Norwel Gapasinao, Daniel Confesor, and Mario Baco.
Three were partially damaged. Sander Derojo, Alejandra Dayaday and Fernando Acuyado owned them.
The blaze around 4:50 p.m. on Sunday started at the house of Marcelino Baco Sr., BFP investigation showed.
“Indi halin sa Panay Electric Company ang ila (Baco Sr.) kuryente. Naga-tap sila sa street light. May short circuit,” said Fire Officer 2 Denmark Macoco, investigator.
That the houses were made of light materials allowed the fire to easily spread, Macoco said.
Firefighters also had difficulty reaching the area due to the narrow road, he stressed.
“Advise lang sa public: Kon may masunog dira dampi sa Boulevard, ipahigad gid ang mga salakyan kag trisikad,” he said. “Avoid double-parking. Makitid na nga daan ang area, may ga-double-park pa.”
Macoco also appealed to the locals to heed instructions from firefighters.
The BFP declared a “fire out” at 5:25 p.m. It estimated the cost of damage at P500,000./PN
