BORACAY – Cellphone signals of all telecommunication services will be shutdown in some parts of the capital town during the “Kaadlawan it Kapistahan ni Señor Sto. Niño de Kalibo” today.

Brigadier General Emmanuel Luis Licup, acting Directorate for Operation of the Philippine National Police, asked the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for a shutdown in some areas near and within the zone of the Ati-Atihan Festival from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The temporary shutdown of mobile services will cover Mabini Street, Roxas Avenue, C. Laserna Street, and M. Laserna Street in Barangay Poblacion. These areas are near the Kalibo Pastrana Park, Kalibo Magsaysay Park and the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.

NTC commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba approved the precautionary security measure on Jan. 9 for the safety of the devotees and revelers who will attend the pilgrims mass at the Cathedral front yard around 7 a.m., Paeapak and the grand procession at 8:30 a.m. along the major streets of Barangay Poblacion today. 

Around 3 p.m., a religious parade of the Señor Sto. Niño images will take part in the celebration.

Security forces are also on alert to ensure the well-being of the public who will join in the revelry.(With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
