ILOILO City – What are the plans and projects of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) federation in this city?

The newly-elected federation president, Leila Luntao, is seeking inputs from the SK presidents of the districts of Jaro, La Paz, City Proper, Molo, Mandurriao, and Arevalo.

“I plan to hold a meeting with the SK presidents of all districts. Right now we can’t do anything. The office is still being fixed,” Luntao, told Panay News.

Luntao as SK federation president sits as ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod. She holds office at the sixth floor of the Iloilo City Hall.

Also the SK president of Barangay Our Lady of Lourdes, Jaro district, Luntao said the inputs of SK district presidents would help her determine what to prioritize.

Last week, the city government called on youth organizations to register and be part of the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC).

Under the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Law, the LYDC would “ensure wide and multi-sectoral youth participation in local governance.”

The LYDC chairmanship is automatically assumed by the SK federation president.

The objectives of the council are:

* to promote the role of the youth in the development of the community and/or school/radio/television;

* to develop leadership among the youth of society and foster the principles of brotherhood;

* to develop sports, social, civic, and cultural activities for the benefit of the youth in our community and/or school;

* to arrange workshops, seminars, conferences, and other events for the youth in our community and/or school; and

* to collaborate with educational, charitable, business, and government organization in order to develop, fund, and implement our organization’s objectives./PN
