SM joins ‘One Million Trees in One Day Challenge’ in Capiz

SM joined the One Million Trees in One Day Challenge project of the Capiz Provincial Government last June 25.

The venture is a province-wide tree-growing project initiated by the Provincial Government of Capiz through the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CAPENRO) together with other government offices, national government agencies, academe and private sectors to take a huge leap in combatting the world’s changing climate system and in restoring our forests with Philippine native trees.

Led by SM Regional Operations Manager for Visayas 3 Girlie Liboon, the team drove as early as 2 a.m. from Iloilo to get to Roxas City, Capiz and proceeded for another one-hour drive to President Roxas town, in Barangay Bayuyaw. From the town proper, another one-hour trek should be hurdled to get to the planting site, with the assistance of the residents and officials of the said barangay.

The initiative is part of the mall’s advocacy to support projects on environmental sustainability, disaster resilience and green campaigns.

It can be recalled that, SM City Iloilo also joined the Grow a Million Trees project of Department of Environment and Natural Resources last October 2018 in Barangay Cag-an in Anilao town in Iloilo.

SM ensures environmental responsibility in its business processes and contributes to the protection of the natural habitats where the company operates. It obtains climate friendly solutions, adopts instruments that help monitor and mitigate the Company’s carbon footprints, protects biodiversity and promotes access to clean and renewable sources of energy./PN
