BACOLOD City — A Philippine Army soldier and a member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) were killed after unidentified gunmen ambushed them on Tuesday afternoon, May 12, in Barangay Maquiling, Sagay City, Negros Occidental
Police identified the fatalities as Corporal Robert Dador, 48, and a resident of Zarraga, Iloilo, and Johnrey Moncatar, 26, a civilian active auxiliary and resident of Barangay Celestino Villacin, Cadiz City.
Initial investigation showed the two were riding a motorcycle from the detachment of the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB) in Barangay Celestino Villacin and were heading to Barangay Bato, Sagay City, when armed suspects opened fire at about 3:10 p.m. in Purok Kalubihan, Barangay Maquiling.
Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene.
Police have yet to identify the attackers and determine the motive for the killing.
A hot pursuit and dragnet operation was launched in coordination with neighboring police units and the 79IB.
Investigators also sought assistance from the Scene of the Crime Operatives for forensic examination of the area.
