‘Soliciting money a grave offense’

BACOLOD City – Garbage collectors of IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC), the contracted garbage hauler of the city government, may be fired if they are found to be soliciting money from households and other entities during the course of their work.

Such act is a “grave offense”, stressed IPM-CDC project supervisor Daryl Abiol.

He was reacting to a Facebook post of resident Jake Pomperada seeking help regarding a garbage collector.

The post read: “Some garbage collectors are soliciting money when they collect garbage from households here in Bacolod City. City public officials, please look into this important matter. Councilor Bobby Cindy Rojas, help us. This happened this morning at Eroreco Subdivision.”

The post was made on May 1.

Yesterday, Abiol said he was looking forward to receiving a formal complaint from Pomperada.

IPM-CDC project supervisor also named the garbage collector in question – Roel Canja.

Abiol said IPM-CDC won’t tolerate shenanigans and that their collectors’ contracts prohibit them from soliciting money from anybody.

Violators risk being terminated from work, he stressed.

A formal complaint is needed, said Abiol, so that his company can properly legally take action in compliance with labor laws.

Pomperada did not identify Canja in his Facebook post. Abiol managed to trace the collector by checking the time and areas of assignment of IPM-CDC’s garbage crew and cross-matched this with time and area referred to by Pomperada in his post.

According to Abiol, when he confronted Canja, the garbage collector denied asking money, just water to drink because it was hot and he was exhausted./PN
