BACOLOD City – Councilors asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to fast-track the repair of the Lupit Bridge II.
Councilor Caesar Distrito suggested they work double-time, especially in evenings and on weekends, when there is less vehicular traffic.
Ongoing work at Lupit Bridge II, among other “long-overdue” work of the DPWH, is a “major cause of (vehicular) traffic congestion” in the area, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) said in a resolution.
Lupit Bridge II is at the boundary of barangays Taculing and Villamonte, near the Bacolod City Government Center (city hall).
Its repair “has been ongoing for several months” and is now resulting in “heavy traffic congestion,” especially with “numerous delivery vans, cane trucks and other motor vehicles” passing by, stated the resolution authored by Distrito.
Most locals complained that the traffic is inconveniencing them by adding “30 to 40 minutes” to their travel time, “[affecting] their jobs and appointments,” the resolution stated.
“One solution … is to conduct the repair at night since fewer vehicles pass by during such time,” it stated.
The DPWH should also “call the attention of the contractor” and “put up information and warning signage that the bridge is under repair” to discourage motorists from passing by the area and letting find another route./PN
