SP wants more cops posted at Handumanan slaughterhouse

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) requested at least two police officers to be assigned at the AVM Bernardo Slaughterhouse in Barangay Handumanan.

The SP believes that police visibility will be a crime deterrent in the area.

The AVM Bernardo Slaughterhouse is where altercations that can lead to crime usually happen. They involve meat inspectors and meat suppliers who bring with them guns and bladed weapons.

The altercations usually occur when meat suppliers’ livestock are denied approval for slaughter, Councilor Bartolome Orola said.

The SP passed a resolution asking the police deployment from Bacolod City Police Office head Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo.

Orola, the author of the resolution, stressed that the SP’s move is in line with the “protection of life, liberty, and property” and “promotion of the general welfare.”

“For maximum effectiveness, police should be present at the start of ante-mortem inspection of the meats inspectors, preferably from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., as well as during the peak season when they are operating 24/7,” Orola said./PN
