KALIBO, Aklan – Who would assault a special-needs resident of Barangay Bakhaw Norte to death? Police have yet to know.

The family of the 28-year-old Ronald Graho wants justice for his death.

A bloodied Graho was found along the road in Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Bakhaw Norte — around 50 meters from their house — on April 5.

He was taken to the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital around 6 a.m. but he died of severe head injuries an hour later.

Pinatay siya (He was killed),” his emotional father Rodel said. “Tinapon sa isang basurahan malapit sa taniman ng saging, walang damit sa katawan at duguan (Stripped of clothing and bloodied, he was thrown into a pile of garbage near a banana plantation).”

The eldest of the eight children of Rodel and Gloria, Graho had a congenital speech disorder and had not had a formal education.

Graho “helped in household chores,” Rodel said in Filipino. “He fetched water and rushed to the store when asked to buy something.”

A “jolly and helpful” man, Graho had no known enemy in their village, his family said.

The family asked the Philippine National Police crime laboratory and the Scene of Crime Operations to autopsy the body.

Graho was “killed at the exact site where he was found,” mother Gloria said in Filipino. “His attacker may have struck him with a huge stone on the head. He also had contusions all over the body.”

Police continue investigating the incident. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
