ILOILO City — The driver of a sports car involved in the fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a man in Pavia, Iloilo in 2024 was arrested on Sunday, July 19, after police served warrants of arrest for separate criminal cases.
The suspect identified as Rudolph “Bobot” dela Rosa, 63, was caught in Barangay Poblacion, Bingawan town.
Police Lt. Philip Girao, officer-in-charge of the Bingawan Municipal Police Station, said authorities received information that Dela Rosa was in the municipality, prompting them to conduct surveillance.
“We received information that the suspect was in Bingawan, so we immediately conducted monitoring and verification to confirm his presence in the area,” Girao said.
According to Girao, police later confirmed that Dela Rosa’s listed address was in Barangay Pueblo Concepcion, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, prompting Bingawan police to coordinate with the Iloilo City Police Station 5 (ICPS-5) to ensure the proper implementation of the warrants.
Authorities first served Dela Rosa with a warrant of arrest for attempted murder. He was subsequently served another warrant for murder by personnel of ICPS-5.
Girao did not immediately disclose details of the cases covered by the warrants, saying the investigation remains under the jurisdiction of the concerned police units and the courts.
Dela Rosa was previously identified as the driver involved in the June 1, 2024 incident in Barangay Pandac, Pavia, where a sports car allegedly rammed a married couple in front of Monticello Intimo.
Initial reports showed that Dela Rosa first struck Shefryl Garcia before an altercation ensued. He allegedly then drove his vehicle toward Rave Garcia, who sustained fatal injuries.
The incident drew widespread public attention after authorities alleged that the victims were intentionally hit by the vehicle.
