ILOILO City – More than 500 workers across Panay Island are set to regain access to vital Social Security System (SSS) benefits and loan programs after their delinquent employers were served violation notices as part of a region-wide crackdown during the first quarter of 2025.
The SSS Visayas West 2 Division revealed that it is seeking to recover P4.63 million in unpaid contributions from 87 employers who failed to remit mandated SSS dues.
These employers were flagged through the agency’s intensified Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign, conducted across the Iloilo Central, Molo, Roxas, Antique, and Kalibo branch offices.
“Several employers who received the written notices have made initial compliance with the SSS, resulting in collection of about P600,000 worth of past-due SSS contributions and corresponding penalties,” said SSS Vice President for Visayas West 2 Division Angelo O. Blancaver.
About 521 employees will benefit from this compliance because they will now have updated contribution records, making them eligible to avail of SSS benefits and loans in times of need.
Employers are given 15 days from receipt of notice to settle their obligations or face charges under Republic Act 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018. Violators may be fined between P5,000 and P20,000 and face imprisonment ranging from six to 12 years.
Blancaver also reminded business owners of their legal duty to register workers within 30 days of hiring and remit monthly contributions consistently.
“Social security coverage is a lifeline for workers in times of need. Employers must do their part to ensure their employees are protected,” he added. (With a report from the Philippine News Agency)/PN
