ILOILO City – St. Roberts International Academy weathered an endgame run by the Sun Yat Sen High School for a 94-92 win in the 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball League (Mayors Cup-1st Conference) on Monday at the Barangay Katilingban Gym in Molo.

St. Roberts relied on its outside hits early in the game to build a lead as high as 20 points. Sun Yat Sen made its rally in the last two quarters, but fell short against the tight defense of St. Roberts.

Kevin Baranco top-scored with 25 points for St. Roberts, which tallied its second straight win to improve to a 4-2 win-loss slate. They will try to continue their winning ways against Jalandoni Memorial National High School at five in the afternoon today.

Sun Yat Sen, which slipped to third place in the standings with a 3-1 win-loss mark, aims to rebound from its first defeat when it takes on league-leader CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights at 2 p.m.

In the other high school category match, Iloilo National High School (2-3) got back on the winning track by beating Jalandoni Memorial (0-5), 78-64. Domingo Howard had 16 points for INHS.

In the lone 40 and up category game, the Iloilo PROS stretched its winning run to three in as many games by scoring an 87-71 domination over the Double B squad, which slid down to the 2-2 mark.

Other matches for today are the Iloilo National High-Mandurriao National High School tiff at 3:30 p.m. and the Iloilo Tuesday Club battling PISAI squad at 6:30 p.m. in the lone 40 and up game.

The 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball Tournament, also known as the Mayors Cup-1st Conference, is organized by the Iloilo City Government and presented by Flanax and Bonamine./PN
