ILOILO City – Do not campaign or endorse candidates, Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), warned policemen.
“No one should engage, directly or indirectly, in political activities,” he stressed in a recent command conference on the security preparations for the May 9 national and local elections.
Partisan cops face sanctions, said Dongbo.
“As government employees and in-charge of maintaining peace and ensuring security during the elections, we are expected to be non-partisan as mandated by law. I also urge the public to report any police officer found violating this instruction,” said Dongbo.
Before the March 25 start of the campaign for the local elections, Dongbo relieved 136 police personnel who have relatives running for office. They were given faraway assignments.
“We want to make sure our police personnel remain non-partisan,” said Dongbo.
Here’s the breakdown of these relieved policemen by area:

* Capiz – 23
* Antique – 20
* Guimaras – 6
* Iloilo province – 36
* Negros Occidental – 27
Their transfer to other areas would prevent them from possibly influencing the outcome of the elections in favor of their relatives, said Dongbo./PN
