ILOILO City – The abrupt leadership change at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame yesterday won’t disrupt ongoing operations in Western Visayas, stressed the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
The regional police command pledged support to newly appointed PNP chief Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., assuring continuity of law enforcement efforts in Western Visayas.
Police Brigadier General Josefono Ligan, regional police director, said the PRO-6 is fully committed to Nartatez’s priorities of professionalizing the police force, strengthening public trust, and ensuring safer communities.
“On behalf of the men and women of PRO-6, we welcome our new Chief PNP with respect and full commitment. We will align our programs with his priorities, particularly in building safer communities, professionalizing our service, and strengthening trust with the public,” Ligan stressed.
The fight against illegal drugs, criminality, and insurgency will continue without pause, he said.
“Leadership may change, but our mission remains the same, to serve with honor, to uphold justice, and to protect the people of Western Visayas,” Ligan added.
Nartatez, the PNP’s 32nd chief, officially assumed office on Aug. 26, succeeding General Nicolas Torre III, who was relieved after just two months in the post.
Torre’s brief tenure was marked by his push for the “five-minute response” policy in emergencies, which Ligan acknowledged will still guide local policing./PN
