BACOLOD City – Barangay Sum-ag’s village council is proposing to make the Sum-ag National High School (SNHS) a college.
Rep. Greg Gasataya said he, Sum-ag village chief Rodney Carmona and SNHS principal Warlito Rosareal have talked about the proposal recently.
Gasataya added that the two officials want to convert the SNHS into the “Sum-ag Polytechnic College.”
The congressman said his office is conducting a feasibility study to determine if the proposal is “legally doable.”
He added that he considers implementing such conversion through a law.
“Let’s study the proposal. Lantawon ta ang mangin impact sini kay indi pwedi madula ang high school,” Gasataya said.
If SNHS becomes a college, Gasataya said it must offer agriculture, education and technical-vocational courses, among others.
The SNHS has lot area of about 5,000 hectares. It has a “good performing” special science program backed with equipment and a building, according to Gasataya.
This school year, it caters to about 4,000 Grade 7 to Grade 12 students.
Just this month, 40 new classrooms at SNHS have been inaugurated. In July, another 10 will be opened as science and information and communications technology laboratories./PN
