ILOILO City – Sun Yat Sen High School recovered from its first defeat in the 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball League (Mayor’s Cup-1st Conference) with an 82-60 win over Mandurriao National High School on Tuesday at the Barangay Katilingban Gym in Molo.

Earl Mabacquiao led the way with 26 points for Sun Yat Sen, which bounced back from a stunning 94-92 loss to St. Roberts International Academy on Monday to improve to a 4-1 slate in the high school category.

Sun Yat Sen will finish off its campaign in the tournament against Iloilo National High School at 2 p.m. today after its matchup against the league-leader CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights on late Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Jalandoni Memorial National High School has finally barged into the win-column in six matches after its opponent Iloilo City National High School failed to show up again.

In the college category, the University of San Agustin moved to a share of first place with the Central Philippine University Golden Lions after beating St. Paul University, 94-87, behind the 22 points of John Robejos.

In the 40 and up category, the Iloilo PROS has extended its winning run to four after dealing the PISAI team its first defeat, 81-79. John Aguilar finished with 30 points for the Iloilo Pros.

In other matches today, Sta. Clarita International High School (5-1) will face Mandurriao National High at 3:30 p.m., while the PISAI versus Double B tiff is at 5 p.m. and the Iloilo PROS against Iloilo Tuesday Club clash is at 6:30 p.m.

The 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball Tournament, also known as the Mayors Cup-1st Conference, is organized by the Iloilo City Government and presented by Flanax and Bonamine./PN
