
MANILA – Generika-Ayala Lifesavers cruised to a strong start in the Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference. It swept Marinerang Pilipina Lady Skippers, 25-19, 25-23, 25-17, at the Bacoor Strike Gym in Bacoor, Cavite.
Ilongga Fiola Ceballos, Bacolodnon Patty Jane Orendain and Mean Mendrez came up huge as the Lifesavers crushed the Lady Skippers’ defense with powerful smashes from start to finish.
Ceballos and Mendrez top scored with 12 points apiece while Orendain chipped in 10 markers.
The Lifesavers notched its first win of the season in just
one hour and 25 minutes.
Jamie Lavitoria also made her contributions for
Generika-Ayala with double-double 13 excellent sets and 15 digs while Marivic
Meneses took the cudgels at the defensive end with seven points.
“It was a good momentum-builder for us,” said Ceballos, a former Central Philippine University Golden Lions standout. “It feels good to kick off the conference with a win and we hope we can continue this kind of intensity.”
Francesca Racraquin was the lone bright spot with double-double 14 points and 21 digs, but her efforts went down the drain for the 0-1 Lady Skippers, which dropped its 16th straight defeat dating back to the All-Filipino Conference.
In the second game, Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors leaned on the exploits of Pamela Lastimosa to score a 13-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19 win over Foton Tornadoes.
Lastimosa tallied 19 points to go along with 13 excellent digs./PN
