MANILA – A majority of Filipinos believe that elected officials do not value what ordinary citizens think, according to the latest survey of Octa Research.
The survey results released by the polling firm on Tuesday revealed that only 31 percent of adult Filipinos believe that elected officials value the views of people compared to 61 percent who think they do not. The rest were undecided.
Respondents were asked: “In your opinion, do elected officials (in Congress and local government) value what people like you think?”
According to Octa Research, when grouped according to socioeconomic class, 28 percent of respondents from Classes A, B, and C (middle to the upper class) said yes, while 61 percent said they do not and 11 percent were undecided.
Among those in Class D (lower-middle class), 61 percent also said they felt politicians ignore their views, 30 percent believe they value what they think and 9 percent were undecided.
Meanwhile, in class E (lower class), 41 percent answered yes to the question, 57 percent said no, and 3 percent were undecided.
The survey was conducted from Dec. 3 to 11, 2025 among 1,200 adult Filipinos and carried a ±3 percent margin of error. (Isabelle Pechay © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
