Suspect in sex worker’s killing found dead, too

ILOILO City – A drug surrenderee and suspect in the killing of a commercial sex worker on Monday night, June 6, was found dead on Wednesday morning in a vacant lot in Barangay So-oc, Arevalo district.

John Louie Macugue, 22, of Barangay Rima Rizal, City Proper had three gunshot wounds to the head.

Residents found Macugue bound in the hands and feet with duct tape, according to Arevalo police chief, Major Chen Tañagras.

Macugue’s head was also wrapped in duct tape.

Tañagras said Macugue was the suspect in the shooting of commercial sex worker Apple Jane Nacionales on June 6 in the City Proper.

He, however, could not say for certain if Macugue’s death had something to do with Nacionales’ death.

“We have no suspects yet…we are considering all possible motives,” Tañagras said, including illegal drugs and vendetta.

According to Barangay So-oc residents near the area where Macugue was found, around 9 p.m. on Tuesday night they heard six successive bursts of gunfire.

The police found five sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia from Macugue.

Around 1:05 a.m. on June 6, two gunmen onboard a motorcycle shot Nacionales on corner Ledesma-Valeria streets, Barangay Ed Ganzon, City Proper.

Nacionales, 28, of Granada Street, Barangay Bagumbayan Poblacion, Guimbal, Iloilo died while being rushed to the West Visayas State University Medical Center in Jaro district.

According to Police Station 1, the victim was attacked while talking to a friend.

The gunmen left immediately.

Police Captain Shella Mae Sangrines, chief of Police Station 1, said one angle probers were pursuing was illegal drugs.

In 2015 Nsacionales was arrested for allegedly visiting a drug den./PN
