KALIBO, Aklan – The Philippine Coast Guard will investigate a vessel that has been docked in the Aklan River in Barangay Bakhaw Norte since Wednesday night.
The vessel is believed to be owned by a Chinese national.
Coastguards are waiting for Bureau of Immigration officials before they enter the vessel.
The docking caused alarm among residents of Bakhaw Norte.
“Based on our initial investigation, the Chinese came here to dredge the Aklan River,” Petty Officer 1 Jose Jessie Gayoba of the Coast Guard station in Dumaguit. “But I was informed they don’t have permits from the local government.”
“We received information from the (Coast Guard) central office that a Chinese vessel is coming, but we could not (yet) ascertain if the vessel that arrived is the same one we were informed about,” said Gayoba.
Gayoba said the vessel came earlier than expected. He added that they already reported to their central office. He refused to further comment pending the investigation. (PNA)
