ILOILO City – A suspected drug group leader in northern Iloilo was arrested in Barangay Cabantohan, Lemery town.

The house of 43-year-old Dexter Basbaño was raided around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Lemery police station recovered the following items:

* a KG9 machine pistol with ammunitions

* two assembled KG9 magazines

* ammunition for a .9mm pistol.

Aside from drug trafficking, the suspect’s group was also into gun-for-hire activities, said Chief Inspector Charlie Sustento, team leader of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit in northern Iloilo.

Basbaño was in the Lemery police station’s list of suspected drug personalities, he added.

While Sustento described Basbaño as evasive, Lemery police chief Senior Inspector Elmer Villaruel said the suspect was a “low-level” drug target.

Judge Rogelio Amador of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 66 issued the search warrant.

Basbaño was detained at the Lemery police station.

Last year, Basbaño voluntarily turned himself in to the Lemery police station and said he was a drug user, said Villaruel.

The police station, however, received information that the suspect was also peddling drugs, said Villaruel./PN
