ILOILO City – As cities across the country ramp up efforts to confront evolving threats to public safety, Iloilo City is setting an example by reinforcing its tactical response capacity — thanks in part to a key private sector donation that is now fully integrated into police operations.

An armored vehicle donated by businessman Chiu Rhett Cembrano of Golden Delta is now actively supporting the Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, enhancing its readiness for high-risk situations.

While the ceremonial turnover was held last month, city officials say the impact of the donation is just beginning to be felt on the ground.

Mayor Jerry Treñas, who led the recent turnover, emphasized that the contribution signals a shift in how local governments and private entities collaborate on public safety initiatives.

ICPO Director Police Colonel Kim Legada said the vehicle’s operational deployment would give officers a tactical advantage during security operations and reinforce police visibility in potential conflict zones.

The city government earlier augmented police capabilities with new patrol cars, assault rifles, and communication gear. But this armored vehicle, funded privately, stands out as a symbol of active civic engagement in peacekeeping efforts.

“The private sector is stepping up to support our police force,” Mayor Treñas said. “Together, we are building a safer, stronger Iloilo.”/PN
