INDEED, we will be talking more about MORE Electric and Power Corporation, or simply MORE Power — “I Am Iloilo City’s” sole power distribution utility.
To start with, last month’s increase in power rates was due to a series of yellow alerts issued by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in August. The alerts were triggered by a tight supply of electricity relative to demand. However, once spot market prices stabilized, generation charges began to decrease.
This brings us to the good news: current residential rates have dropped from ₱12.44 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to ₱11.087 per kWh this month. Commercial rates also went down from ₱11.760 per kWh to ₱10.405 per kWh.
According to MORE Power, the rate reduction is mainly due to the lower generation charge. In short, the significant decrease in electricity rates this October will be felt when we pay our electric bills this November.
As part of its continuing effort to lower rates, MORE Power carefully plans its electricity purchases and maintains bilateral supply contracts to ensure cost efficiency. True to form, the company has assured its consumers that it will always strive to provide affordable rates and quality service to the Ilonggos.
Moving on, as part of its commitment to deliver excellent service, MORE Power recently launched its first Transformer Awareness Campaign, rallying large commercial, industrial, and government accounts for a pilot run focused on transformer maintenance.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Key Accounts Group of the Customer Care Department, aims to equip customers with practical knowledge on how to properly maintain high-voltage transformers and prevent outages. After all, the condition of transformers within customer premises can significantly affect the entire distribution system. Poorly maintained high-voltage assets can cause outages that ripple beyond a single site, disrupting nearby consumers and operations.
This program promotes safety standards, improves system reliability, and underscores the importance of MORE Power’s proactive customer engagement and technical support. The pilot phase includes training on safe handling practices, routine maintenance checks, and identifying early warning signs of transformer issues. It’s part of MORE Power’s broader effort to reduce unplanned power interruptions and strengthen grid reliability through closer collaboration with its key accounts. (PN, 10/21/2025)
Meanwhile, here’s an interesting trivia: boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has teamed up with Primelectric — the parent company of MORE Power in Iloilo, Negros Power in Central Negros, and Bohol Light in Tagbilaran City — but not for anything related to sports or boxing.
Pacquiao, through his Manny Pay digital wallet, has officially partnered with Primelectric President Roel Castro to include Manny Pay among the Third-Party Collection Agents for Primelectric’s utility services. The agreement was signed at Shangri-La Makati on October 30, 2025, right after Manny Pay’s official launch.
Once integrated into the system — which serves nearly 400,000 consumers — customers will be able to pay their monthly utility bills online via the Manny Pay mobile app, enjoying lower service fees and greater convenience.
Finally, during the onslaught of Typhoon “Tino,” MORE Power’s efficient management of power interruptions and swift response to distribution system damage helped avert what could have been a major power blackout.
Just another day with your friendly neighborhood power utility — MORE Power — always finding ways to keep its customers happy, satisfied, and safe./PN
